This charming and unusual wooden Goblin CR "Time Spot" radio was manufactured by the British Vacuum Cleaner & Engineering Company Ltd. in Leatherhead, Surrey — a company name that sparks conversation in its own right. Although this model was also exported to Australia, mine is a British version as evidenced by its Type G 3-prong plug. The clock is mains-powered and could be configured to turn on the radio at a preset time.

Service data can be found at radio-workshop.co.uk.

I acquired this as my first foreign radio in 2024 after nearly 25 years of collecting only American-made sets. I couldn’t resist its character when I spotted it in the local online classifieds. The previous owner discovered it in a North Texas antique mall in the mid-1980s and held onto it for nearly 40 years. The original finish had degraded so I sanded the entire cabinet and refinished it with a few coats of polyurethane.
