Mattel Intellivision 2609

1979

The Intellivision 2609, released by Mattel Electronics in 1979, was the original model of the Intellivision home video game console and designed to compete with the Atari 2600. It featured a 16-bit General Instruments CP1610 processor, making it one of the most advanced consoles of its time. The system introduced unique disc-based controllers with a numeric keypad, allowing for more complex gameplay interactions. The Standard Television Interface Chip (STIC) enabled higher-resolution graphics compared to its competitors, and the AY-3-8914 sound chip provided multi-channel audio. The 2609 model was manufactured in the United States, while later revisions, such as the 2609A, were produced in Hong Kong and Taiwan, with minor hardware differences. The Intellivision became known for its strategic and sports games.

I found this console for free in the dumpster after a North Texas estate auction had sold goods in large lots. I later purchased game cartridges for this console from ebay in 2017 for $11.
